National Coming Out Day UK tomorrow

October 11, 2010

So tomorrow is Coming Out Day, an opportunity to take a huge step towards being more open and true to yourself. Some people do laugh at this day and exclaim “Why come out on one specific day when you can any day?”

The idea is, the day is for those that feel oppressed by the people around them, living in fear that they would be judged, ostracised, despised. We’re not forcing them to come out, we’re reassuring them that our opinion would remain unaltered because of their sexuality. It shows that no one cares if you’re gay, straight, bi- you’re a person and a friend and that is all that matters.

I address the lazy people mainly: Not the homophobes because I doubt you’d have made it this far, no I address those that support gay rights but just can’t be arsed to help.

Remember, you don’t have to be gay to support gay rights. To overcome the oppression we suffer, we need the support of the majority group (heteros). You can show your support by drawing the lambda onto your person or wearing rainbow. Also please share the news on social networking sites, reassuring you support the cause and their choice to come out.
